Get Well Soon

I have a very sweet friend who is much younger than I am, married, and has a toddler. Recently she was doing the dishes and noticed her arm felt numb. She laid down for a while thinking her blood pressure was out of whack. When the numbness did not subside, her husband took her to the doctor. She spent the next 3 days in the hospital. She had a STROKE! Can you believe it? The doctor says he thinks she can make a full recovery, but what a scare. I made this card to send to her just to let her know I'm thinking of her and wish her well really soon.

Cut It Up Ch#9
"Out With The Old"
Create a project that resues something from the house that you typically would not use in your papercrafting. (A pendant from an old necklace, the acetate backing from a sticker sheet, fabric from some old clothing, etc.)
Must also include a DIE CUT.
Challenge ends Jan. 9th @ NOON EST.

Here is my project for this challenge:

#521

I got this awesome idea from this site:
http://www.merrimentdesign.com/recycled-fabric-napkin-rings-from-saran-wrap-tubes.php

I used a Paper Towel roll I'd normally throw away and cut it to the width I wanted my napkin ring.

My mama and sister recently gave me some some of their material scraps (both of them are great seamstresses... I don't sew).

I followed the instructions from the site linked above, added ribbon, a beautiful hand sewn lacy flower from a very talented friend, and a name tag placement.

Tag was cut using CTMH ART PHILOSOPHY p. 60 @ 2" and embossed with the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots folder.  Green twine from Doodle Twine purchased at Hobby Lobby.

Tea Time

Good morning! I had a great Christmas and I hope you guys did too. All of the decorations, the tree, everything came down Christmas morning. It's what we've always done. Take everything down and put it away so there is room enough to play with our new toys!  A lot of people think that's weird. For us, it's normal traditional behavior.

We have 4 children. The older two are living with their spouses and raising a family. Can you believe I'm a Grandma?! I hope you don't mind, but I want to share some pictures with you before I show you the project I made today.

This is our oldest son, Jimmy, his wife, Nhi, and our grandson, Wyatt. He just started walking a few weeks ago! Woo-Hoo! They spent their Christmas at Nhi's parents' house in Colorado. It actually snowed there and looked pretty until the sun came out and melted it.

This is our oldest daughter, Keri and her handsome, Aaron. They are PERFECT together! We love Aaron like he's our son.

And this little darling is their son and our grandson, Kevin. Those punch fists are from me and Tom. Hahaha They make noise too. How fun is that?!

Here is our daughter, Kati, with the love of her life, Ryan. I have to say, these two throw the BEST parties! We always have a blast at their parties. I'm so proud that her and all our children have good friends, are responsible, and have grown up to make us so proud.

And here is Kati with our special needs child, Bonnie. Or more affectionately known around here as BonBon.

I think everyone had a GREAT Christmas!

Bonnie got an XBox Kinect and a few games. I think her favorite game so far is:

I bought Tom a butler dog. This dog just cracks me up.

Tom named him Hobson.

And here is my Christmas present from Tom. A new table that I got to pick out on Christmas Eve. I love it! We got it at North Furniture Company (Facebook link HERE) which is 3 blocks down the road from us. We go there now and then to check everything out and daydream and plan our next purchases.

One more family picture....

Here is my Mama and Daddy on Christmas Day when we gathered at my brother's house for family, food, and fun.

Are you ready for a card today?

  • The burgundy fuzzy string is from American Crafts "Premium Ribbon" sent to me by my Secret Santa, Nicole, along with lots of other goodies. Thank you, Nicole!!

  • The turquoise buttons are from our daughter, Kati. She bought them for a project, used what she wanted, and gave me the rest. Hey, I'll take 'em! I love buttons!

Friendship Board Book

Merry Christmas!!

I hope you woke up this morning surrounded by loved ones. That's really what's important. Not packages or bows or stuff stockings (although those things are fun too), but being able to see, touch, hug, and smile at the ones you love. That's a great gift!

Today I want to share with you a very special gift I gave to one of my very good friends. I enjoyed it, giggled over it, and kept thinking about her smiling and giggling too.

To see another Friendship Book I posted earlier.... CLICK HERE... or scroll down to previous post.

I started out with a board book I bought for $1.00.

It's so cute, I sort of felt bad about covering up all the pretty pictures. Oh well. I didn't feel so bad as to not actually do it though. LOL

Here you go. The front, back, spine, and all the inside pages are covered with ivory cardstock.

This next step can be a little messy. Everything is inked around the edges with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress ink. Make it messy. If it doesn't look messy, loved, and a little worn, do it again. LOL We are not looking for perfect lines here. We are looking for messy.

Next I chose the paper for the front, back, and spine. I love this brown polka dot paper.

Before I forget, I stamped my name and blog stamp on the back. Years from now, I want her to remember who gave this to her. :)

Time to get the front cover decorated!!

#504

I kept index cards for each page and cover with notes of what cuts I used, the sizes, and any other details I wanted to be sure and include in this post. Believe me. This was very helpful. I won't include sizes of the background papers because if you decide to make a book like this, chances are the board book you get will not be the exact same size as this one. But I will include die cut sizes.
